Pietari Inkinen, Chief Conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra – Notice of Extension of Term

インキネン

Pietari Inkinen is currently Chief Conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and his term in this post will be extended for two years from September 2021.
In 2009, Maestro Inkinen became the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal guest conductor. He has been the orchestra’s Chief Conductor since 2016. In 2019, he and the Japan Philharmonic carried out the orchestra’s first European tour in 13 years. In the 2019-2020 season, they undertook a “Beethoven Series.” Due to travel restrictions resulting from the coronavirus situation, Maestro Inkinen has not been able to visit Japan since October 2019; but with the extension of his term, he has expressed a strong wish to present Beethoven programs once again.
Internationally, Maestro Inkinen is currently chief conductor (since September 2017) of the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern. Additionally, his debut appearance at the Bayreuth Festival, which was canceled last year due to the coronavirus situation, is now planned for this year’s festival, in a performance of “Valkyrie.”
Be sure to follow Maestro Inkinen’s upcoming activities.
