Pianist Tomoki Sakata wins the 32nd Idemitsu Music Award

We are pleased to inform you that the pianist Tomoki Sakata has won the 32nd Idemitsu Music Award.

Idemitsu Music Award was established in 1990 in order to recognize up-and-coming musicians. With the aim of developing promising artists, the award emphasizes motivation, talent, and future potential.

Tomoki Sakata won the 1st Prize along with 6 special prizes at the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition 2016. After studying at the Tokyo University of the Arts, he is currently studying at the soloist course of the graduate school of the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. He has been praised at many competitions including the 2013 Cliburn Competition where he was the youngest prize winner at the age of 19. Sakata has performed in 20 countries and numerous international music festivals. At the International Festival “Musical Kremlin” Mr. Nikolai Petrov raved about Sakata’s recital of all Liszt program as “the world’s best Liszt performance”. Sakata is also the winner of the Culture and Art Encouragement Award of the Yokohama Culture Award 2017.
