[Biography] Katarzyna Budnik (Viola) Katarzyna Budnik is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in the violin class of Mirosław Ławrynowicz, Andrzej Gębski and Janusz Wawrowski and in the viola class of Piotr Reichert. Since 2008, she has had success at a numer of competitions; she has won, among others, the International Ludwig van Beethoven Competition in Hradec (the Czech Republic, 2008), the 15th International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach (Austria, 2008), and the 8th All-Polish Jan Rakowski Viola Competition in Poznań (2008). In 2013. She won the third prize at the International ARD Music Competition in Munich — one of the most prestigious competitions for the classical music performers. She played with the most prominent musicians: Gidon Kremer, Tatiana Grindenko, Yuri Bashmet, and Frans Helmerson. In 2013, her first monographic record released by DUX record company, Viola recital, where she is accompanied by guitarist Krzysztof Meisinger (pieces by Max Reger, Aran Khachaturian, Pierre Rhode, Niccolò Paganini, and Cadenza by Krzysztof Penderecki). In 2014, the album received the ‘’Fryderyk” award in the category ‘’Album of the year — solo recital” Since 2014, Katarzyna Budnik has been the leader of the viola group in the Orchestra Sinfonia Varsovia.
