International Music Festival NIPPON 2020

On the occasion of the International Music Festival NIPPON 2020

〜Artistic Director Akiko Suwanai’s reflections on the festival

In February 2020, just after the opening of International Music Festival NIPPON 2020 and performances to full houses in Tokyo and Nagoya, the lives of people around the world changed instantly due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Unfortunately, the situation surrounding the music world has been transformed completely; however, inspired by my earnest wish for a “life with music,” I would like to give concrete form, one by one, to the things that can be done at the present time. In February 2021, together with my wonderful like-minded friends, we will present some of the programs that had previously been scheduled for March 2020. In addition, this time we are making preparations so that music fans can enjoy online performances as well.
I very much look forward to the day when we can perform wonderful music for everyone at the concert hall. I pray that a life of peace and security returns very soon, and I look forward to seeing you all.
