ProfileProfile

Vincent Ong (Piano)

Vincent Ong is a Malaysian pianist whose artistry has earned international recognition, including the Fifth Prize at the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition and the First Prize at the 19th International Robert Schumann Competition 2024. Born in Penang, Malaysia in 2001, Vincent began playing the piano at the age of four. He studied with the renowned Malaysian pianist and composer Ng Chong Lim before continuing his musical education with Prof. Eldar Nebolsin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Vincent’s breakthrough came in 2018, when he won the International Taipei Maestro Piano Festival, leading to a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, conducted by Yao-Yu Wu at the Taipei National Concert Hall. In 2020, he received a prize in the Concert Artist category of the Singapore International Piano Competition. He later won the Klavierförderpreis Maurice Ravel (2023), and in 2025 was invited to perform at the prestigious Nohant Festival Chopin in France. Vincent is a scholarship recipient of the Lucia-Loeser Foundation and Fondation Clavarte, and a member of the Lieven International Piano Foundation in Vienna. With a repertoire spanning from Bach to Chopin to Ligeti, Vincent combines intellectual depth with poetic expression. His artistry is also shaped by his passion for composition, improvisation, and an enduring fascination with piano technique. He has worked with distinguished musicians including Elisabeth Leonskaja, Elisso Virsaladze, Natalia Trull, Marc Laforêt, Piotr Anderszewski, and Kirill Gerstein.
