Yasushi Hirano is currently one of Japan’s most acclaimed bass-baritones.
Hirano graduated at the top of his class from the Nihon University College of Art and the master’s degree course of the Vienna University for Music and Arts. He studied with Yoshie Sue, Rotraud Hansmann and Robert Holl. Following an extremely busy period performing in approximately 500 productions as a member of the Graz Opera and Vienna Volksoper, Hirano is currently active as a Vienna-based soloist in operas and orchestra concerts.

In Europe, Yasushi Hirano has appeared frequently in concert halls such as the Vienna Musikverein and Berlin Philharmonie, with many renowned conductors including Yutaka Sado and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. He has also given consecutive performances in Turandot and Carmen in the Bregenz Festival Opera on the Lake.

In Japan, he has further distinguished himself with a series of landmark performances in the 2025/26 season. He received exceptional critical acclaim for his interpretation of Leporello in Don Giovanni, conducted by Masato Suzuki with Bach Collegium Japan. Furthermore, he appeared as the featured soloist in “Beethoven’s 9th with a cast of 10,000 EXPO2025” under the baton of Yutaka Sado at the Opening Ceremony of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.

Looking ahead, his upcoming engagements include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Tadaaki Otaka, and his house debut at the Staatstheater Cottbus in Germany, where he will perform the role of Zaccaria in Nabucco. Through these prominent appearances at home and abroad, he continues to expand his artistic horizons on the global stage. Hirano has released the CD Schubert: Winterreise on the Nippon Acoustic Records label.
