We regret to inform you that, after through discussions with the Bolshoi Theatre, Bolshoi Ballet Japan Tour 2020 (a total of 13 performances in Tokyo, Otsu, Maebashi, and Osaka), scheduled for November 23 to December 6, has been unavoidably cancelled in view of the international circumstance as well as the domestic situation resulting from the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Dear ballet lovers and fans of the Bolshoi Ballet in Japan,
We at the Bolshoi Ballet reached a decision that we had no other choice but to cancel the Japan tour scheduled for November and December 2020. The Japan tour of this year has been planned for years in cooperation with Japan Arts and regional presenters, and has been greatly anticipated as something special by our dancers. Therefore, it was a painful decision to make. But we considered giving the highest priority to maintaining healthy bodies and minds of all dancers, musicians, and staff members who are involved in this project, as well as all audience members.
Nobody could imagine the world situation would get so confused as this. I’m sure that the emotional communication between the Bolshoi Ballet and audiences in Japan will not fade but will become stronger by thinking of each other. We promise that the Bolshoi Ballet will show you again performances worthy of the name in Japan.
We hope all of you always keep love, appreciation, and dream in your hearts.

Makhar Vasiev
Ballet Director of the Bolshoi Ballet
