Mari Endo was born in Kanagawa and began her first lesson of cello at the age of 3.
She graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music at the top of her class. While a student she was awarded the Fukushima Prize, the Ataka Prize, and the Arkansas Prize.
She won both First Prize and the Tokunaga Prize at the 72nd Annual Japan Music Competition in 2003, the Third prize at the Prague Spring International Music Competition in 2007 (without First prize winner) and the 2nd prize at the Enrico Mainardi competition in 2008. She also received Hideo Saito memorial fund award in 2009.

From 1998 to 2000, Endo participated in Saito Kinen Chamber Music Study Group for Young People. In 2000, she performed a concerto with Seiji Ozawa at the same group. From 2001 Endo participated in the opera project of the Seiji Ozawa Ongaku-juku, as well as in the Saito Kinen Orchestra in 2002.
She studied with Philippe Muller at Académie de musique français de Kyoto.
She studied with Clemens Hagen at Salzburg’s Mozarteum University from 2006, and completed the master course getting a unanimous top mark in 2007. Endo has also received instruction from Hiroshi Usui, Fumiaki Kono, Nobuko Yamazaki, and Ryoichi Fujimori.
In September 2006, she gave her first full recital at Kioi Hall in Tokyo followed with another at Aobadai Philia Hall.
Apart from recitals and chamber music concerts throughout Japan, Endo has been invited to perform with such orchestras as Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic, Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Yamagata Symphony Orchestra and so on. Among the conductors she has worked with are Masahiko Enkoji, Shigeo Genda, Ken-ichiro Kobayashi, Michiyoshi Inoue, Seikyo Kim, Chosei Komatsu, Gerhart Bosse, Jean-Pierre Wallez, and Ludovic Morlot .
In 2007 she toured with Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa in Japan and participated in Tokyo Performing Arts Festival. Furthermore her performances with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and Prague Symphony Orchestra in 2009/2010 season expanded the range of her activities

Endo have released 3 solo CDs including ‘Cello Melodies’ and trio album ‘RAVEL’ with Tamaki Kawakubo (Vn.) and Yurie Miura (Pf.) from Avex-classics.
